French-Slovenian duo Caroline Garcia and Katarina Srebotnik defeated world No. 1s Martina Hingis and Sania Mirza on Saturday night to advance to the Rogers Cup presented by National Bank final. It took less than an hour for the No. 4 seeds Garcia and Srebotnik to oust Hingis and Mirza 6-3, 6-2.
Garcia and Srebotnik – a new pairing this season – have advanced to the final without dropping a set. Srebotnik has been one of the leading doubles players on the WTA circuit for the last 15 years and since joining with Garcia, they have finished as runners-up at Brisbane and Stuttgart. Srebotnik already has two Rogers Cup doubles titles to her name, from 2007 and 2013, and she’ll be looking to add her third this year.
For the title, they will face No. 3 seeds and two-time Grand Slam champions Bethanie Mattek-Sands and Lucie Safarova. The final will take place on Centre Court on Sunday following the singles final.
