A busy Thursday afternoon session at Rogers Cup presented by National Bank sees several marquee players march into the quarter-finals. Grigor Dimitrov, Gael Monfils, and Stan Wawrinka are all in to the final eight in Toronto.
Bulgaria’s Grigor Dimitrov defeated Ivo Karlovic of Croatia 6-3, 7-5 on Aviva Centre’s Grandstand Court. The Bulgarian is in the midst of a resurgent summer. He won 89% of the first service point to continue his winning ways. The Bulgarian meets Japan’s Kei Nishikori next.
Nishikori, who continues the quest for his first ATP World Tour Masters 1000 title, cruised into the quarter-finals with his won over qualifier Rajeev Ram. The No. 3 seed dismantled his American opponent 6-3, 6-4 to become the first player in the field to secure his berth in the quarter-finals.

Tournament No. 2 Stan Wawrinka also advanced. He ousted American Jack Sock 7-6(2), 6-2 to secure his spot in the remaining eight. Wawrinka managed to keep his unforced errors low at 17, while his American opponent registered just under double the amount at 33.
Wawrinka meets South Africa’s Kevin Anderson on Friday. Anderson unhinged No. 12 seed Bernard Tomic of Australia 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 on Thursday. Anderson aced the Aussie 26 times in the contest and won 80% of his first serve points. His quarter-final match-up will come against the winner of Stan Wawrinka and Jack Sock’s Thursday early afternoon match.
Also advancing is France’s Gael Monfils. The No. 10 seed solved David Goffin of Belgium 7-6(5), 2-6, 6-4 to roll into the quarter-finals. The first-career meeting between the two took over two hours and fifteen minutes to complete. He awaits the winner of the match between Canadian Milos Raonic and American qualifier Jared Donaldson on Thursday evening.
