No. 3-seeded duo Bethanie Mattek-Sands and Lucie Safarova defeated No. 4 seeds Caroline Garcia and Katarina Srebotnik 6-1, 6-2 to win their maiden Rogers Cup presented by National Bank title on Sunday.
Although Garcia and Srebotnik ousted No. 1 seeds Martina Hingis and Sania Mirza in straight sets in the semifinals on Saturday, they were no match for Mattek-Sands and Safarova on the day. The American-Czech pair took the title without dropping a set and closed out the match in less than an hour, winning 68 per cent of the total points.
As a brand-new pair this year, Mattek-Sands and Safarova now add a fourth crown to their growing resume. They also took the titles at the Australian Open, Stuttgart, and Roland Garros earlier this year.
